whether可以用作連詞
whether用作連詞,意思是“是否,是不是”,可引導名詞從句或動詞不定式短語。
whether還可引導讓步狀語從句,意思是“不管,無論”,從句中通常用一般現代時代替將來時。
whether用作連詞的用法例句
I'm uncertain whether to go or not.我不能肯定去還是不去。
His nationality isn't relevant to whether he's a good teacher.他的國籍與他是否是位好老師無關。

whether 和 if 都可以作“是否”解，但二者在具體使用時有一定的區別。
He asked me whether/if we wanted a drink. 他問我們是否要喝點東西。
He didn’t know whether/if she was a nurse. 他不知道她是否是一位護士。
但在有些動詞后多用whether 不用if。如:
We discussed whether we should close the shop. 我們討論了是否該關閉那家商店。(比用 if 正規)
當使用 if 會引起歧義時應用whether 。如: “我不知道是否在下雪”應譯為I don’t know whether it is snowing, 而不說I don’t know if it is snowing(因為if也可表示條件)。
另外，whether 引導的從句的謂語動詞不能用否定形式，但 if 引導的從句的謂語可以用否定形 式。如:

Idon’t care if it doesn’t rain.(正確)
Let me know whether you can come or not. 告訴我你來還是不來。
Iwonder whether it is big enough or not. 我不知道它是否夠大。
當然，在口語中有時也說“if you can come or not”，但whether后面可以直接跟or not, if后則不行。如上句可改為:
