It pays to be honest
“You can trust nobody except yourself”, we always see this subtitle in the movie. It does reflect one overcast facet of our society. As a matter of fact, dishonesty has swarmed into our lives. To name only a few, pirate DVD products have dominated the film market; we don’t possess intimate friends and we always, worst of all, lose the sense of security.
Shall we indulge ourselves in this situation without any concern? Absolutely, no. For one thing, honesty is a traditional virtue of our Chinese offspring. Looking back on the past, we have got an army of heroes who dedicated themselves to the government because of their sense of honesty and loyalty. For another, honesty is conduce not only to yourself but also to other fellow citizens surrounding you. Undoubtedly, honesty could sharpen your competitive edge in the process of job-hunting. Moreover, it will, combined with passion, play a positive role in the modernization course of our country.
All above-mentioned interpret the significance of being honest. As an individual, I hold the attitude that it pays to be honest. We will exert ourselves on propelling this merit until it is universally recognized.

Fifteen years ago, the word "unemployment" was regarded as the most estranged word and the patent of capitalism. It is all of a sudden for millions of Chinese workers, especially in textile,to find that their ever well profited factories nearly bankrupt and themselves unemployed. To begin with, "unemployment" readjusts the industrial structure of the state-owned enterprises, which shows more and more defects. It is undeniable that products made in China have less competitive power compared with imported ones. Because the whole structure of our industry is labour intensive, which is now tangled with high cost and low efficiency. The first initiative to solve the problem, ruthless but useful, is to cut down the extra workers, which, in effect, save some dying enterprises from the edge of bankruptcy and enhance their efficiency and competitiveness.
"Unemployment" in some traditional industries, on the contrary, stimulates the development of some new industries, such as service industry, which create many jobs for those layoffs,which, in turn, stimulate the industry to prosper, as becomes an increasingly important part of the social economy.
Another profound influence "unemployment" brings is that it has uprooted the traditional outdated modes of thought, carved in our minds, fiercely and thoroughly, that a lifelong job no longer exists. The era of planned economy has come to its end.Tough competition has terminated the security of job and one should prepare himself for the corresponding transformation of society. "Run, or lose" becomes the golden rule of commodity economy. Amazingly, more and more layoffs took the lesson,made proper adjustment and then find themselves new positions.
"Unemployment", as an unavoidable economic phenomenon, is pounding on our out dated social system strongly. It is like a rainstorm that uproots the traditional modes of thought and brings life to the diversified industries, transforming the traditional industries and washing away the deep-rooted but outdated thoughts. Face it properly and we will have a shining future.

大學英語作文：Spare the Lottery
Lottery, booming all of a sudden all over the world, attracts all kinds of people. Nearly everybody, old or young, rich or poor, is right now trying his luck in lottery or is thinking of doing so. Despite many disputes that lottery is receiving, I still assume, personally, that lottery does mere good than harm.
The worst effect caused by lottery, as many socialists indicate, is that it produces in people an idea of "gain without pain'.But at the same time, they neglect one point--it is human nature that people all expect to obtain most while offer least. The thought of "gain without pain" is buried in everyone's heart and is not bred by lottery.
Consequently, lottery is innocent in this way. But there still remain a large group of people against lottery, among whom are some lottery addicts. Such people are fond of lottery but unfortunately luck is never fond of them. Finally, they end up in complaining about lottery, declaring the great harm, both psychologically and economically lottery has done to them. In this case,the problem lies in the attitude of people, not lottery.
Since the major two sorts of harm are not lottery's fault,let's have an objective look on lottery. For the society, lottery is the most practical way to accumulate funds. For those who happen to win a large fortune, I think they can't kiss their lottery enough. Also for those who have not a single chance to be lucky dogs, lottery can mutely tell them the truth of "no pains, no gains."
Spare the lottery! It, in itself can do more good than harm.
