　　Since 19th century, the availability of workers’ regular leisure time and modern transportation, as the consequences of Industrial Revolution, made it possible for even working-class to afford traveling on weekends or annual leave. In recent years, thanks to the skyrocketing tourist number and poor management, mass tourism has generated much pressure on local environment and culture. It is highly necessary for people to increase awareness on long term sustainable development of local tourist industry.

　　Admittedly, it is not easy for some travelers to regulate their behaviors due to the lack of knowledge or sense of responsibility. In consideration of the money and time spent, they desire to get the most out of their traveling experience, like taking selfies and enjoying local food. While entertaining themselves, they may ignore how their irresponsible acts bring troubles to others. What local people complain most about foreign tourists usually include damages on environment, noises, pushing and squeezing. Even worse, some photo freaks would like to take pictures of whatever they encounter regardless the signs of “NO PHOTO” and local people’s resentment.

　　However, the selfishness and irresponsibility shown among tourists ought to be timely corrected and regulated. On the one hand, the local tourism office must implement strict and effective management, so as to protect environment and provide better traveling experience. For example, there should be a maximum number of tourists admittance, according to the carrying capacity of the environment. Also, it is necessary to arrange more staff on spot to keep the environment clean and maintain orders. On the other hand, tourists’ self discipline is equally integral to the healthy development of mass tourism. Although people have paid for their traveling, it does not justify their selfish behaviors. Even better, people can do some research in advance about local customs, especially religious taboos.

　　To sum up, it is possible for tourists to be responsible and respectful with effective management and conscious self-control. All these are essential for the sustainable development of mass tourism.
